Revised Handbook for Employers: Effective June 1, 2011, US Citizenship & Immigration Services revised the M-274 – “Handbook for Employers: Instructions for Completing Form I-9.” Generally speaking this revision is more detailed than past versions and adds some additional images of acceptable I-9 documents. A number of the additions or changes relate to some useful but less frequently occurring I-9 scenarios, such as:
- EAD auto-extensions for existing Temporary Protected Status employees (p. 11)
- Rehirings (19)
- Reverifying an employee’s employment authorization (19)
- I-9 storage (24)
- asylees and refugees (page 46, Q. 50)
- umbrella permit for Marshall Islanders (page 49, Q. 60)
- USCIS also removed some items:
- All references to Form I-797C (18; 41).
- Q-1 visa holders from the list of those eligible for a 240-day extension (18)
